Some of our initial findings suggest that lower intentions to screen for bowel cancer are significantly related to feelings of embarrassment during a variety of medical exams and doctor-patient interactions, and also to a fear of the bowel screening procedure. Many people who report stronger experiences of disgust indicate that they are also less likely to participate in bowel screening. Stronger feelings about being able to effectively participate in and complete bowel cancer tests reduced the influence of negative emotions on bowel screening intentions, while a belief about having higher susceptibility to developing bowel cancer was also related to higher intentions to engage in screening.

Our initial findings have paved the way for the survey that we are presently running, and we are very interested to hear the views of a broad sample of Australians who may have never even considered screening, or those who have already screened for bowel cancer. Regardless of your bowel screening history, or intentions, we'd appreciate hearing your opinions about this disease and its screening tests.
